Used in Civil and commercial concrete construction.
The offset central clip secures the spacer to the bar. This prevents the common problem of the spacer popping off the steel reinforment.
The wide gaps between the spokes and outer loops allow the concrete to flow through the spacer. The concrete, spacer and steel bind together.
This reduces the chance of plugs of concrete (small pot holes) appearing and falling from the finished product during expansion and contraction.
The outer looped reinforced legs gives the spacer additional security and are less likely to colapse under the correct load.
The virgin plastic allows the spacer to give and then spring back to position and shape. Recycled plastic is more prone to snapping as it is likely to be more brittle.
The virgin plastic’s behaviour, is structurally more consistent and relaible than a recycled plastic spacer.

Should recycled rather than virgin plastic be utilised. One should ensure testing of every batch is carried out, in order to comply with code 2425:2015. The composition of recycled plastic differs in every batch, as opposed to virgin products. Composition of raw virgin material can be controlled to produce consistent batches. Precastpro products are also more flexible and less likely to snap. Less wastage.

Engineers are recommended to specify virgin, and instruct not to use recycled plastic in order to ensure compliance to 2425:2015. Using recycled could affect insurance cover, should faults, disagreement or incidents occur. A classic example, automobiles with a faulty tire may not be the cause of an accident. However the driver will not be covered.
